These trips precede my obsession with recording my travels, so the narrative is from memory which may be unreliable.
For my trip to New Zealand (January - March 1979, slides 1 - 260), I bought an SLR camera and decided to use slide film. On my return, I continued to use slides. Over the years, I have scanned most (so far) of the slides and tried to organise them in an accessible way. Herewith, part of the result.
In the early days, I sorted my slides thematically, rather than chronologically. Short of dis-mounting them all to try to recreate individual films, all I can be sure of is that all of these were taken in 1979 - 1982. Some of them were scanned many years ago; I have not bothered to re-scanned them so they may be somewhat lacking in colour accuracy.
And this last one should be (chronologically) elsewhere but it is more convenient to put it here.
I have a diary entry for Broad Law on Sunday, 19 January 1975. I've only been up there twice, the other trip was in summer (and was the result of multiple miscalculations, but that's another story) so these photos must be 1975. Which means I didn't take them, so someone must have given them to me.

Dave & I went with Jonnie to visit his sister Jane and Ed in Newcastle. On Saturday, we saw the sights of Newcastle, only one of which I seem to have deemed worthy of a photograph, and on Sunday we went to Beamish and Durham Cathedral, a tour of the latter being much enhanced by Ed's commentary (him being an architect!).

Tony Harris, a colleague at Dalkeith, married Lucille at the Edinburgh Registrar's office in Queen Street. The best man was Mike Worling (another colleague) and the bridesmaid was Tony's sister. The photographer objected to wedding guests piggy-backing on his compositions so there are no photographs outside at the hotel.

The wedding was in Liverpool, and I was booked on a course at Bracknell on the Monday, staying in The Post House Hotel near Heathrow. So I hired a car for the weekend (Hertz £63.21) - one way to Heathrow (and got one two groups above what I asked for), drove down to Liverpool on the Saturday, was persuaded to stay overnight at the hotel (The Liverpool Crest, Knowsley - £11.90) and continued south on the Sunday.

But before continuing south, I just had to visit the iconic hostelry named in tribute to a local MP - Prime Minister Harold Wilson. I arrived half an hour before opening time and the barman invited me inside and gave me a half pint while I waited.

I was in London for business reasons several times in 1979 and 1980 but have no recollection of playing the tourist. However, I have a credit card receipt from the London Tara Hotel for Saturday, 9 June and another from the Glen Eagle Hotel, Harpenden on Sunday, 10th. So for want of any better idea, I'll assume I spent that weekend in London rather than returning to Dalkeith for two nights.
The first group here appear to be a morning rehearsal for some state occasion, possibly the Trooping of the Colour which takes place in mid-June with a rehearsal on the preceding Saturday. Others appear to have been taken in the late afternoon - the clock on the Palace of Westminster shows 4.35 and that on Westminster Abbey looks like 3.50, but the light on Westminster Cathedral looks earlier in the day.

Jonnie invited Dave & I down to Selkirk for the celebrations. The Cavalcade usually fords the Tweed but the river level was a bit high this year so they had to use the bridge. The first two photos were taken on Thursday evening and the last on Saturday or Sunday at a picnic near St Mary's Loch. I don't remember much else of the weekend.
